How to experience the world fully, and come back with a great story.
When we talk about Just Passing Through, we’re not talking about flying 27 hours across the globe and paying overpriced resort fees and jumping on overcrowded tour buses. Yes, those often play into the vacation game. But Reef Ambassadors and Adventure Seekers are all about experiencing every moment, every taste, and every interaction to the fullest— (whether it’s a weekend camp trip, or a 20 day tour of Thailand)— so much that we come back bruised, exhausted, and of course have a story to tell (and share on Instagram). That’s why our travel experts have teamed up with our Ambassadors and Adventure Seekers to share 4 secrets to travel success. From getting lost, to getting a sick stomach, these tips won’t let you return home unexhausted or unfulfilled.
1. TAKE THE ROAD LESS TRAVELED
On our latest trip to Greece, Reef Ambassadors Mike Lay and Anna Ehrgott landed in Corfu. The beaches were packed with umbrellas and pale tourists. So we hiked a few miles down the beach to discover a sunken ship, crystal clear water, and empty beach for miles. Plus, it was the perfect location to shoot the true beauty of Corfu.
2. GET TO KNOW THE LOCALS
Keep an open mind, and immerse yourself in the culture. You may find that the experience is far more rewarding than simply standing on the corner and snapping pictures of the sights.
3. PACK ONLY WHAT YOU CAN FIT IN A CARRY-ON
Pack light. Really light. It’s freeing. Pack versatile pieces like cotton tees and dresses, as well as the Reef Rover shoes and sandals that work for light hikes, dinners, or beach walks. A hat is a great fashion accessory as well as sun protection. Don’t forget a camera—keep it in a safe place.
4. TRY NEW THINGS AND TAKE RISKS
You may come home with some scratches, and a few scoldings from your mom (she already saw your IG post), but you won’t regret an exhilarating cliff jump, the experience of learning how to island hop—on your own boat—and diving into unknown waters. Don’t go home without a cool story.
